Cocoa Value Addition Summit 2026

The Bank of Agriculture (BOA) participated in the Cocoa Value Addition Summit 2026, held on 14 July 2026 at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre (BATICC), Abuja. The summit brought together policymakers, financial institutions, development partners, industry leaders, researchers, and key stakeholders across the cocoa value chain to explore practical strategies for accelerating value addition and strengthening Nigeria’s cocoa industry.

Held under the theme “From Bean to Brand: The Bean in My Hand, The Brand in Our Future,” the summit served as a platform for meaningful dialogue on expanding domestic cocoa processing, attracting investment, improving access to finance, and promoting policies that encourage local manufacturing and export of value-added cocoa products. Participants emphasized the need to reposition Nigeria as a competitive player in the global cocoa market by moving beyond the export of raw cocoa beans to producing finished and semi-finished cocoa products.

The Cocoa Value Addition Summit 2026 highlighted the significant economic opportunities that exist across the cocoa value chain. Discussions focused on increasing local processing capacity to produce products such as cocoa butter, cocoa powder, chocolate, beverages, cosmetics, and other high-value derivatives. Expanding local value addition is expected to create employment opportunities, increase export earnings, improve farmers’ incomes, and contribute to the sustainable growth of Nigeria’s agricultural economy.

For the Bank of Agriculture, participation in the summit reflects its continued commitment to supporting Nigeria’s agricultural transformation agenda through investments that strengthen agricultural value chains and promote agribusiness development. As Nigeria’s foremost agricultural development finance institution, BOA recognizes that financing value addition is critical to enhancing the competitiveness of agricultural commodities, increasing rural incomes, and unlocking greater economic opportunities for farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs.

The summit also provided an opportunity for stakeholders to exchange ideas on innovative financing mechanisms, strategic partnerships, technological advancement, and policy reforms required to accelerate the growth of Nigeria’s cocoa sector. Deliberations underscored the importance of collaboration between government, financial institutions, development partners, processors, exporters, and private sector investors in building a resilient and globally competitive cocoa industry.

Strengthening Nigeria’s Cocoa Value Chain

The Cocoa Value Addition Summit 2026 reinforced the importance of developing a stronger and more integrated cocoa value chain capable of delivering long-term economic benefits for Nigeria. Rather than relying primarily on the export of raw cocoa beans, stakeholders advocated for increased investments in local processing, manufacturing, packaging, branding, and marketing of cocoa products. This approach will not only enhance the country’s export competitiveness but also generate higher value from every stage of the production process.

For BOA, supporting agricultural value addition aligns with its broader mandate of financing agricultural production, agro-processing, and agribusiness enterprises across the country. Through accessible financing, strategic partnerships, and targeted interventions, the Bank continues to support initiatives that improve productivity, encourage industrialization, and expand market opportunities for Nigerian farmers and agribusinesses.

BOA’s Commitment to Agricultural Transformation

The participation of the Bank of Agriculture at the Cocoa Value Addition Summit 2026 demonstrates the Bank’s unwavering commitment to collaborating with government institutions, development partners, financial institutions, and private sector stakeholders to strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

Through strategic financing, institutional partnerships, and support for agricultural value addition, BOA remains focused on improving farmers’ livelihoods, encouraging agro-industrial development, expanding market opportunities, and contributing to the Federal Government’s food security and economic diversification objectives.

As Nigeria’s foremost agricultural development finance institution, the Bank will continue to champion initiatives that promote innovation, sustainability, inclusive growth, and increased investment across agricultural value chains. By supporting programmes that encourage local processing and value addition, BOA is helping to build a more competitive agricultural sector that creates jobs, drives industrial growth, and delivers lasting economic benefits for farmers and communities across Nigeria.

The Bank remains committed to working with all stakeholders to unlock the full potential of Nigeria’s cocoa industry and other agricultural value chains, ensuring that agriculture continues to serve as a catalyst for inclusive economic development, food security, and national prosperity.
